Propane Safety: It’s Important to Everyone
Propane is wonderful for heating your home or grilling your food, but like all flammable liquids, it needs to be treated with respect. Proper safety standards for the handling and storage of propane is of utmost importance to all of us here at Barnett’s Propane, and has been since our founding in 1963. We care about our customers first and foremost, so we’re happy to share with you this important information about propane safety.
Transporting Propane Safely
The highest risk of a propane-related accident occurs during transport. For this reason, the trucks Barnett’s Propane uses to transport our product to our customers are registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation as hazardous materials shippers. In addition, all of our drivers are given special training to ensure that they deliver our propane safely. Although it’s not necessarily safety-related, our trucks are also registered with the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures, which ensures that you get the propane you pay for!
Storing Propane Safely
Storing propane safely is important for everyone who sells or uses it. Besides the risk of combustion from improper storage, leaving propane cylinders in the wrong place can result in damage from corrosive rust or vandalism. The right way to store propane is to ensure that the level of liquid inside the cylinder is above the safety relief valve if the tanks are stored on their sides. The safety relief valve needs to be “in communication” with the empty space inside the container. Also, never store propane near a source of flame or near other combustible materials.
