Propane Basics: Your Guide to Grilling
If you are planning to make the switch to propane, you will need to make some changes when it comes to preparing and cooking food to get the same great taste you usually get. Use this guide to figure out how to grill with propane before your next barbeque.
Decide on Direct or Indirect Heat
Some people like to place their food directly onto the grill to cook it, while others like it place it a little bit above the grilling surface. If you are cooking something like a hamburger or a hot dog that will be done in less than 20 minutes, you should use direct heat. If you are grilling something that takes longer to cook, you can use indirect heat.
Make the Proper Preparations
Before you even turn on the propane, you should set up a little grilling station that has all of the food and equipment you need. You do not want to leave the grill unattended to go back inside the house and grab an important ingredient or tool that you forgot to bring outside. Be sure you have plenty of plates, utensils, and seasonings outside with you so you can grill everything before you step away from the flames.
Be Careful with Rubs and Sauces
When done correctly, rubs and sauces enhance the flavor of the meat. If you do not do it correctly, though, it might affect the way the meat cooks and tastes. Gently apply rubs to the meat so you do not cause any damage. You should put sauces on at the very end of the grilling session to ensure that they do not burn off.
